GUIDED TOUR OF BLACKBURN CATHEDRAL

Blackburn Cathedral is one of England’s newest cathedrals, yet it is one of the country’s oldest places of Christian Worship. With the creation of the Diocese of Blackburn in 1926 the impressive parish church of St Mary the Virgin was raised to cathedral status. Work began on enlarging the new cathedral in 1938 but it was not finally completed and consecrated until 1977. This visit affords members of the Society the opportunity to learn more of the history and the artefacts of our local Cathedral, as it prepares to celebrate its 200^th anniversary next year.
